Setting A Custom Tracking URL

setting a custom tracking url

Difficulty: Medium
Estimated Time: 3 Minutes

Enhance the purchase experience for your e-commerce customers, by providing a custom tracking URL, rather than the standard USPS or default After Ship links. We’ve provided the option to create your own customized URL in Dropified.

To set up a custom tracking URL:

  • Log into Dropified.
  • Find the store you want to set the custom tracking URL for.
  • To the right of the store on the main dashboard, select the gear icon to the right of it.
    • Note: If your current browser window is too small, you might not see it. Expand your window to amend this.
  • In the drop-down menu, select “Custom Tracking URL.”
  • Here you can copy and paste the default custom tracking URL into the URL box.
    • You can alternatively select your service from the list if you see it below the dialogue box.
  • When you paste the URL into the box, make sure that there is no tracking number already in it. Replace the tracking number with “{{tracking_number}}”.
  • When you are finished, select “Save.”

    Sounds great, but could you show an example of a custom domain when using, say, 17Track? What does this look like once customised ? And where will my customers see this? Thanks.

      Hi Alex,
      You can add the custom tracking URL for 17track like this: http://17track.net/?nums={{tracking_number}}
      Once you set the custom tracking URL, Dropified will use that URL in your store during the order fulfillment process. When your customers click on the tracking number in your store’s Order Status page to see the delivery status, they will be taken to the 17track page 👍
      Hope that makes sense

    Thanks Kevin. That doesn’t look customised though. In the instructions above it says “You can enter your custom domain tracking information”. Could you please elaborate on that and show me an example?
    Thanks.

      Hi Alex,
      The above 17track link is a tracking URL. Custom Tracking URL means you can add any other custom URL that you want to use if you have one. For example, if you subscribe to AfterShip’s premium service, they allow you to track with your custom domain like this: https://track.your-store.com/{{tracking_number}}
      You can use that instead of the 17track URL or any other tracking URL that you want.

    what do I do if I don’t have a tracking number to give my customer. The order says tracking n/a. The customer has been waiting long enough

      If you used a shipping method that provides tracking, then you can check for the tracking number in your AliExpress account. If you’re using Dropified to place orders, the tracking number will typically sync automatically into Dropified and subsequently into your store 👍
